Local Artist/Paramedic Shares Her Talent to Support First Responders
Local paramedic Kate Bergen sees her share of suffering as she assists patients with Covid-19. She worries about the spread of this disease and is concerned that people may not be taking it as seriously as they should, especially as our area begins to open up again. A 38-year-old mother of two young children, she is also concerned that she could spread the virus to them.
As a self-taught part-time artist, Kate decided she wanted to use her talents to highlight the plight of first responders, health care workers, and front line heroes, such as truck drivers who make sure we get our food and other items.
In particular, Kate focused her art on the women who she says are sacrificing so much right now. As she explains it, her paintings are a cross between the famous World War II painting "Rosie the Riveter and the I Want You poster of Uncle Sam". Kate's series features nurses, paramedics, and others helping to keep us safe and healthy during this critical time.
