Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Stella” the dog. Stella is a 2-year-old red with white Staffordshire Terrier. Stella is a pocket pitbull, a crossbreed that is quickly becoming a favored alternative to the full-sized American pitbull terrier. Stella is a good choice if you are looking for the pitbull breed with a less intimidating stature.

Here is some information on Stella from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Meet Stella.. She's a sweet-hearted little 2 year Pittbull mix with a heartfelt desire to be with and around people. She's loveable, playful, quick to learn, and memorable to all that meet her.

Here at the shelter, Stella's picked up all the basic commands; she’ll walk nicely on a leash, run to you when called off-leash, sit, lay down and do a few neat tricks like “roll over.” In addition to her love of people, she’s met a few dog friends along the way. Stella may be small in stature but she makes up for it in personality and heart.

She’s just as happy to go for a stroll as she is to sunbathe with you or sit by your side and snuggle up. Stella’s still a puppy at heart; if over stimulated, she can be a little rambunctious at times, so we recommend a family with children 10 and up.

Stop by the shelter to meet Stella and help her find her “furever”home.”

If you would like to visit Stella or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-399-2018 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub).
