Who doesn't love pancakes?  Seriously!  Pancakes are awesome!  And here's the thing about pancakes... you can make them healthier just by changing up a few things.

And guess what?  They can still be awesome!  Ready?  Here are some tips:

  • Use whole-wheat flour instead of white flour, and get your fiber on.  Whole-wheat flour has 16 grams of fiber per cup compared to 3 grams of fiber in white flour.  Good deal!
  • Use skim milk or buttermilk instead of whole milk.  Believe it or not, buttermilk is naturally nearly fat-free and it adds an interesting taste that you don’t get from regular milk.
  • Use canola oil instead of butter.  It's a much healthier option.
  • Add fruit for more flavor.  I love pancakes with fruit!  My favorites include blueberries, peaches, and bananas.  Yummy!
  • And don't go overboard with toppings.  Stick to pure maple syrup and forget about big globs of butter.  Who needs that?  You don't!

Best of all, now you can have your pancake and eat it too.  :)
