Marlene’s Movie Madness : Vacation [VIDEO]

I must admit when I first heard about the new "Vacation" movie, I was a bit skeptical.  After all, how could anyone even come close to the original "Vacation" with Chevy Chase??  And while you really can't top that movie, you can sure attempt to relive the silliness and fun, and the new movie certainly does.  There are plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes, and that makes for the perfect summer movie.

Marlene’s Music History Moment : 7-31-1979 [VIDEO]

On this date back in 1979, James Taylor played a free concert in New York's Central Park to help the city's campaign to restore the park's Sheep Meadow.  And tomorrow he plays another concert, this time a sold-out show at Borgata's Event Center.  And this one's definitely not free.  But I know it will be worth every penny.

Marlene’s Movie Madness : Southpaw [VIDEO]

"Southpaw" is a drama about a boxer.  So why would a girl who likes chick flicks go see a boxing movie??  Two words : Jake Gyllenhaal.  And I must say he looks good in the ring.  And I happen to like boxing.  Who knew??

Marlene’s DVD Review : Big Eyes [VIDEO]

The movie 'Big Eyes' is based on the true story of Walter Keane (played by Christoph Waltz).  His paintings of big-eyed children made him a popular artist back in the '50s.  But the real truth was that his wife Margaret (Amy Adams) actually painted every single one of them.  Who knew??  Well, at the time, apparently no one!

Marlene’s Music History Moments : 7-27-1981/1983 [VIDEO]

When it comes to the music world, women certainly do rock.  And on this very day two years apart, two very different female artists each debuted her first solo album.  One is Madonna; the other is Stevie Nicks.  It was thirty-four years ago today that Stevie Nicks’ first solo album, "Bella Donna," was released.  Then exactly two years later, Madonna's self-titled debut album was released.  And the rest, as they say, is (music) history.

Marlene’s Movie Madness : Paper Towns [VIDEO]

"Paper Towns" is a coming-of-age movie.  In the beginning, Margo (Cara Delevingne) moved in across the street from Quentin (Nat Wolff), and they ended up becoming fast friends.  But by the time they got to high school,  they barely spoke to each other.  Even so, all through high school,  Quentin couldn't get Margo off of his mind.

Marlene’s DVD Review : The Best of Me [VIDEO]

"The Best of Me" combines drama & romance, which is pretty much my kinda movie.  What can I say?  I'm a sucker for a chick flick!  It's about a couple who falls in love in high school, but circumstances ultimately tear them apart.  They find themselves crossing paths again twenty years later (actually twenty-one, to be exact).  And although their lives have gone separate ways, they find there is still a strong bond between them.

Tomorrow marks the 27th anniversary of the release of 'Kokomo' by the Beach Boys.  It was released to coincide with the release of the movie "Cocktail" featuring Tom Cruise, and its subsequent soundtrack. And if you're still looking for a place called Kokomo off the Florida Keys, good luck with that.  It's not a real place, but it sure does look like it would be fun to visit!
