An overnight tanker truck fire Monday has closed the Atlantic City Expressway in both directions.

The tanker truck hauling 900 gallons of gasoline caught fire on the highway just before 2:00 a.m. Monday.The highway is closed right now from exit 28 (Hammonton) to  exit 31 (RT. 73)

State Police said the driver was heading eastbound and pulled the truck over to the shoulder when he noticed a fire around 2 a.m., between Routes 73 and 54 in Hammonton. The driver got out of the truck safely and without injury, according to State Police.

The Facebook page PhillyFireNews says a an airport "crash truck" from Atlantic City International Airport has been called in to help put out the fire.

Command has tanker truck heavily involved. Foam Task Force has been dispatched. A Crash Truck is enroute from the AC Airport. Companies attempting to secure a water supply.

As of 5:30am, the Atlantic City Expressway is still closed in both directions.
