The weather is improving and spring is just around the corner, with your chance to safely break out of your COVID bubble and take a spring day trip.

Even if you aren't quite ready for an overnight getaway, we have come up with some suggestions for fun close enough to South Jersey that you can go and just make a day of it, as a couple or with your family.

Here are five fun, spring day trip idea two hours or less away from South Jersey.

Trip #1: The Camden Waterfront: The Waterfront has a range of attractions and a killer view of Philadelphia right across the river. While you're there, you can visit the Adventure Aquarium, with its more than 8,500 aquatic species throughout two million gallons of water, including the largest collection of sharks on the East Coast and the Battleship New Jersey, America's most decorated battleship, which is permanently berthed on the Delaware River at the Camden Waterfront.

Trip #2: Old Philly. Philadelphia’s Historic District has some of the nation’s most iconic monuments and attractions - including The Liberty Bell Center and Independence Hall. The Historic District runs from 7th Street to the Delaware River and from Lombard Street to Vine Street. Philadelphia’s Historic District is also home to Philly-themed mini-golf and a delightful carousel (Franklin Square), delicious eats (City Tavern), and a nationally acclaimed waterfront park (Spruce Street Harbor Park).

Trip #3: New Hope, PAHome to eclectic shopping, riverside dining, impressive theater and cultural attractions, New Hope is a small town with a big city feel. Browse through the specialty stores along Main Street or shop at the nearby Peddler's Village, take in a show at the Bucks County Playhouse or hear the stories of those who haunt the streets of this quiet town with a ghost tour.

Trip #4: Lower Manhattan, World Trade Center, 9/11 Memorial. The world’s most closely watched urban renewal project, the World Trade Center links Tribeca to New York's Financial District, and brims with innovative architecture, renowned public artwork, and grand open spaces. This is a neighborhood reborn, pulsing with energy  and offering a vibrant, street-level experience that thoughtfully integrates the built environment into its surroundings.

Trip #5: Cape May Zoo. This one isn't very far away, but it's well worth your time. The Cape May County Park and Zoo is free and open every day of the year except for Christmas. The zoo features over 550 critters representing more than 250 different species. And with new activities like a private tour, the Cape May Zoo is a must-do. close to home!
