Thursday, August 1 is the deadline for homeowners severely impacted by Superstorm Sandy to apply for a Homeowner Resettlement Grant. The $180 million program encourages homeowners to remain in their homes in the nine most-impacted counties including Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean Counties.Eligible homeowners can apply for a grant by visiting renewjerseystronger.com, or by calling 1-855-SANDY-HM. You can also visit  one of the Housing Recovery Centers including in Egg Harbor Township and Lower Township.

If you've already completed or recently started the work to elevate your house, you wont be eligible due to federal restrictions.

Due to an overwhelming amount of applications so far, they are being randomly selected and prioritized by income and geography.

The money can be used for purposes like mortgage payments and utility bills. In return, you must agree to remain in or return to the county you lived in prior to Sandy.
