ATTENTION BOAT OWNERS & RENTERS: Please Don’t Break This One Rule This Summer
There are plenty of places that boats anchor and just chill in the sun all day long.
There are also a lot of dock and dine restaurants just to amp up the experience a bit.
I don't know about you but I am counting down the days until Memorial Day Weekend because that is known as the official start of Summer in South Jersey.
One of my personal favorites of Summer is boating life.
There really is nothing like disconnecting from society while with your friends, family and furry friend out on the water.
It is one of my favorite places in the entire world -- especially since you don't have to do your hair or makeup to be ready. #LoveIt
But just like beach culture, there are some big no no's that exist within the boating culture.
For example, NEVER bring bananas on a boat. This brings crazy bad luck and I've seen this myth be proven true with my own eyes. I unknowingly brought bananas on my friend's boat in 2019 and for the rest of the Summer, he experienced major mechanical problems.
But one of the biggest pet peeves of boat owners to be in the know about takes place at the boat ramps.
The unspoken rule: Have everything ready to go before putting the boat in the water. This includes loading everything you will need for the day into the boat and having your lines ready.
If you take care of all of these tasks after the fact, you are unnecessarily occupying the ramp and holding up the line of boaters behind you waiting to use said ramp.
And trust me....these ramp lines can stack up a lot quicker than you think. Everyone is trying to take advantage of the nice weather and as you and I both know, the time is limited.
Your goal is to be prepared, back your boat into the water and off you go within minutes.
It's just all about common courtesy and there are a lot of do's and don'ts that come into play with boat life that many people are learning as they go.
So here is your official heads up...especially if you are a new boat owner.
Now who is ready for Summer?!
