Here's something I hope I never encounter while spending the day on the beach - a shark attack. That's what possibly happened to two children enjoying the day swimming off the coast of Fire Island, Long Island.

NJ.com reports the two children may have been involved in a shark attack. Apparently, a 12-year-old girl suffered a bite on Sailor's Haven Beach and a 13-year-old boy was bitten on Atlantique Beach while riding a boogie board. Officials have not yet confirmed that the bites were actually by a shark.

The report states that both children suffered leg bites and were taken to area hospitals with non-threatening injuries. Officials promptly closed both beaches for the day.

According to the report, you have a better chance of winning the lottery then getting bit by a shark. The odds are 1 in 11.5 million, which is music to my ears since I spend most of the summer on the beach. It's always smart to be careful and stay alert while swimming in the ocean.
