Weekend Happenings: Irish Fests, Broadway A-Z, Field of Dreams Fall Opener

The final weekend of summer is here and the weather promises to be great! What are your plans? Allow me to make some suggestions.

My sentimental choice is the fall ball season opener at the South Jersey Field of Dreams in Absecon.

This special baseball field for kids with physical and cognitive challenges continues to be one of the shining lights in South Jersey. Constantly evolving and improving to entertain its ever-expanding group of players, The South Jersey Field of Dreams opens their 2014 season with a big surprise. Join Lite Rock 96.9 WFPG Saturday from 11a-1p at the Field in the Jonathon Pitney Recreation Area for all the fun.

Here's a little more on the surprise in store Saturday direct from a South Jersey Field of Dreams insider. it's very mysterious stuff....

Last season, we were watching another exciting game at the Field of Dreams when suddenly, we heard a strange noise. It was hard to make out above the cheering, but we thought we might have heard… singing!

We looked around, and everyone on the stands was too busy rooting for the players to practice their do re mi’s. So we decided to investigate further. We traced the sound to behind the bleachers, and as we came closer, it became clear — someone was practicing the National Anthem! But as soon as we peeked behind the bleachers, the singing stopped, and we heard something scurry away. All we saw was a trail of footprints leading to a small hole in the ground.

Who is this mysterious musician? Could it be the same creature responsible for cleaning the scoreboard and restocking the snack stand? Whoever it is, it’s clear they love the game.

We’re uncovering more clues about our patriotic pal, and hope to know his true identity soon. Keep your eyes out for more clues, and let us know if you see anything!
