The Cities of Ventnor and Margate are collaborating on a joint plan to improve bicycling and walking conditions in their communities.

The plan will include a future bicycle and pedestrian network that links neighborhoods with schools, parks, businesses, and other destinations. The study’s recommendations will focus on improving safety and mobility, and serve as the basis for implementing future bicycle and pedestrian projects in Ventnor and Margate.

The project is funded by NJDOT and seeks to improve both biking and walking in the two Downbeach towns. This is the first time two contiguous towns have been studied simultaneously. Your input is considered vital to this study's success.

The study is just getting started, and they want to hear from you! Click here to identify problem areas, provide suggestions for improvements, including suggestions for bicycle & pedestrian treatments that you would like to see in Ventnor or Margate.

My first suggestion is to enforce the existing state law that motorists must stop and stay stopped for a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk.

Anyone who has tried to walk or bike across Ventnor or Atlantic Avenues in Ventnor or Margate knows this law is a joke and is ignored by a significant percentage of drivers.
