Longport, NJ Man Dies After Falling Into the Bay
A Longport man died early Saturday morning after an apparent fall into the bay. Longport Police say the man succumbed to his injuries hours after being pulled from the bay by a Coast Guard rescue team.
According to a release on Facebook, Longport Police received a call at approximately 7:22pm on Friday, May 28 and were dispatched to the area of 22nd Avenue and the bay for a welfare check.
The police investigation found that Andrew Stern, 60, of Longport, had gone missing and was believed to have possibly fallen into the bay.
Minutes later, at 7:29pm, Longport Police were told by several witnesses that a body was seen in the water off 33rd Avenue in the bay.
Police say the US Coast Guard arrived on location and retrieved the body just off Monroe Avenue in Margate. Longport and Margate Police and Fire were on location assisting the Coast Guard with lifesaving efforts.
Police report that early Saturday morning, Stern succumbed to his injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Longport Police Department.
The preliminary investigation has revealed no evidence of foul play at this time. An autopsy will be performed.
