5 Animals You Can’t Have as Pets in New Jersey

Venomous Snakes
I would hope common sense would tell you not to have a snake that's venomous as a pet. This could create a slithery nightmare if you were accidentally bitten by one. The two most common poisonous snakes found in N.J. are copperheads and timber rattlesnakes.

Deer
They do look cute and there are over 200,000 whitetail deer in the state. They also can be susceptible to all kinds of contagious diseases and be a common host for ticks.

Foxes in New Jersey are becoming an all too common sight, especially in residential neighborhoods. Gray and Red foxes are the most common in our state. Foxes could carry the rabies disease.

Monkeys are also on the illegal pet list for New Jersey. The do look cute, but they also can be very destructive and very unpredictable. They are wild animals.
