It’s a fact that time seems to go faster the older we get.  Maybe it’s because most people I know lead really busy lives.  And when you’re busy time flies, right?  When you’ve got nothing to do, an hour seems like forever.  At least that’s what they tell me.

I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t busy, except when I was relaxing on the beach, which I managed to do every week last summer.  But even then I was usually going over choreography for a gym class or catching up on some serious reading.  Well, maybe pouring over the latest issue of Glamour magazine doesn’t qualify as serious reading, but it’s still something.  And when I did have some free time to relax, I always thought the same thing.  Where the heck did the time go??

It’s funny how you know things but they don’t really register.  And when they do…BAM!  You just can’t believe it.  I had that kind of realization recently, and it hit me like a ton of bricks.  Here’s how it went down.  My kids are both driving now, which freaks me out at times.  But I’m well aware of that fact.  Yet one day I was sitting in my car at a red light, and the people in the car behind me beeped at me.  I looked in the rear view mirror and saw something I could not believe.  The people in the car behind me were my kids, and one of them was driving!  And that’s when it hit me.  While I was busy with life, my kids had grown up.  I know it didn’t happen overnight, but it was the first time it really sunk in.  And it was right then and there I decided it might be time for me to stop (or at least slow down) and smell the roses.  Or in my case, stop and wave to my kids in the car behind me.  :)
