Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Posey the cat…

Here is some information on Posey from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Posey is a black, brown and orange tortoiseshell cat. She is short haired and has striking yellow-green eyes. She is approximately 5 years old.
Posey was surrendered to the HSOC by her owner, who was hospitalized and found out he was going to have future extended hospital stays. According to him, he could not find adequate care for Posey and her 2 other feline friends, Miles and Penny and felt he could no longer provide for them properly. All 3 cats were previous HSOC adoptees.

Posey was only 3 weeks old when she originally was admitted to the shelter, along with her mother and her 3 siblings. She was adopted when she was about 12 weeks old and lived happily in her home for the last 5 years. It is no wonder she was so frightened for the first week of arriving at the shelter and hid under her bed and wanted little to do with humans. HSOC staff finally won her over and she warmed up. Now she kisses and loves to be pet. She still burrows under her bed at times but comes out for attention regularly.

Posey is friendly and affectionate. She will most likely take some time to get used to new surroundings so patience is a must. A calm, quiet household would be best but some activity would be okay too. Posey has been with other cats but would probably prefer to be the only cat. She has never been with dogs as far as we know but a calm, cat friendly dog may be okay."

If you would like to visit Posey or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.
