Don't let the title of this movie steer you away.  I know what you're thinking.  'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' sounds terribly depressing.  But before you jump to any conclusions, let me tell you why I think you should see this one.

The movie centers around Greg, a high school senior who doesn't really fit in at school.  He and his friend Earl (who he refers to as his co-worker)  watch classic movies and then make silly parodies of them.   Through his mom's suggestion (actually more like insistence), Greg starts hanging out with Rachel, a classmate who has just found out she has cancer.

Of course that all sounds very sad.  And it is.  But it is every bit sweet as it is sad.  Greg and Rachel become unexpected friends.  Their friendship makes her smile when she needs it most and helps her more than he could ever imagine.  It is a touching film that looks at life's issues with sheer honesty and even a dose of humor.  I believe it's just what the doctor ordered.  :)
