The tooth fairy is leaving about $3.40 per tooth around the nation — or about 30 cents less than in 2013.

A survey from Visa found that the tooth fairy’s prices dropped by about 8 percent across the country compared to last year.

Despite the drop, prices in 2014 are still higher than in recent years, with the tooth fairy leaving an average of $3 in 2010, $2.60 in 2011, $3 in 2012 and $3.70 in 2013.

Market specialists say that the amount of money the fairy leaves is a sign of our economic state of mind and consumer confidence.

Good luck trying to explain all that to your kids the next time they lose a tooth.
