The lack of good sleep is a subject that hits close to home for me, since I get up in the middle of the night to prepare for the Lite Rock Morning Show.

It's impossible for me to get 8 hours of sleep in a row on a weeknight, so I rely on afternoon naps to get by. Many days, though, there is no time for napping and, I have to settle for 4 or 5 hours of sleep that day. If that happens two days in a row, I really start to feel the sleep deprivation kicking in.

But my friends at Shore Medical Center say that poor sleep can cause more than grumpiness. Good, restful sleep can really optimize your immune system, improve the effectiveness of vaccines, and reduce symptoms of chronic illness, according to Shore Sleep and Balance Clinical Education Specialist John Keeley.

“This is especially important as we move past the pandemic and return to in-person experiences that make us more at risk for the flu, colds, and other things we have not been exposed to in some time," Keeley said.

I'm not sure how much I can do about my unusual schedule, but Shore Medical Center can help you determine why you don't feel well rested. You might experience snoring, sleep apnea, frequent waking, or something else altogether, and Shore Medical Center might just have a solution for you.
