We need it to stay safe!  We don't need it - it's ugly! That's the argument over the recently installed fence around  the Great Egg Harbor Bridge on the Garden State Parkway, near the border of Atlantic and Cape May Counties. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority put it up saying it will deter terrorism, but... the Cape May County Freeholders hate it and want it taken down.

Similar fences are being installed around certain bridges along  the length of the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike.

The Turnpike Authority insists they have done a security assessment that the $250,000 fence was needed.  But, earlier this week, the Cape May County Freeholders voted unanimously to ask that the 8 foot-tall fence, topped with barbed wire, be taken down, saying they don't want the unsightly fence to be the first thing seen by tourists as they enter the county.

I would like to know how you feel about the Parkway bridge fence. Is the fence a necessary precaution to help protect us from a terrorist attack, or is it just a good  example of a big waste our parkway toll money ?  Leave me your comments and vote in the poll below...
