The Millville Thunderbolts boys basketball program has chosen its new head basketball coach.

Michael Jones stepped down after 11 years of leading the Thunderbolts, winning a school-record 137 games and making seven NJSIAA playoff fields.

He mentor the school's all-time leading scorer, Rynell Lawrence, and was also named the Press of Atlantic City's coach of the year for the 2018-19 boys basketball season, where Millville made a run to the NJSIAA Group IV finals.

On Tuesday, the school announced that assistant coach Mike LaTorre, 37, will replace Jones on the sidelines.

LaTorre spent the past 10 years as part of Jones' staff

LaTorre is a familiar name and face in Millville, serving as the head golf coach as well.

The 2002 Sacred Heart graduate recently congratulated Jones in a tweet, who stepped down to spend more time with his family.
