Helpful Tips on Returning to the Barrier Islands

Here are some tips form the Atlantic County Hurricane Survival Guide:

Stay away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to Atlantic City Electric.

Carefully walk around the outside of your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structual damage before entering.

Stay out if you smell gas.. Call South Jersey Gas immediately.

Take pictures of damage both of your home and it's contents. Have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer if you have saftey concerns.

Use batterypowerd flashlights. DO NOT use candles.

Avoid drinking or preparing food with tap water until you're sure it's not contaminated.

Check refrigerated food.. When in doubt, throw it out.
