The medical research is in and, frankly, I don't believe it.  Doctors and scientists seem to agree that a large meal,  say Thanksgiving dinner for instance, does not cause you to become groggy.

These experts say the old theory that you become sleepy after overeating because more blood is rushing to your stomach than your brain... just doesn't hold water...or gravy.

They suggest it's simply the time of day, usually 1 to 3pm-nap time, coupled with a larger than usual amount of food and drink that puts us out for the count.

And that notion that tryphophan, a sleep inducing agent found in turkey, is responsible?  Again the experts say... not so.  Scientists speculate that you would have to eat an entire 20 pound turkey to get enough tryphophan to induce sleepiness.  Well, I could give it a try.

So if it's not the turkey dinner that's knocking us out, what is responsible?  Doctors say to consider a better regime of health and exercise.  Let me consider that while I unbutton my pants and get comfortable over here on the couch.  Any pie left?
