The link between Sea Isle City and Avalon will be closing on Monday, February 3rd, for long-term construction.

The Townsends Inlet Bridge, which connects Avalon and Sea Isle City, will be closing Monday so crews can replace the aging steel in the structure. The bridge is expected to reopen around April 30th, however, work will continue until Memorial Day weekend.

Cape May County engineer Dale Foster tells The Press of Atlantic City, “The supporting steelwork in the movable span, the stringers and floor beams are in very poor shape. We painted the bridge in 2010, and there wasn’t much steel left.”

Over the past several years, the Townsends Inlet Bridge has seen its share of closures and repairs, most recently due to Superstorm Sandy when Ocean Drive was damaged approaching the span.
