Tips to Stay Safe and Warm This Winter
It can be extremely dangerous and even potentially life-threatening being outside when it's this cold.
Brace yourself for gusty winds which will make it feel well below zero. According to the National Weather Service “The combination of wind and low temperature in winter can be deadly,” “Wind chill values near minus 25 degrees mean that frostbite is possible within 15 minutes.
Hypothermia can be deadly at this time especially if your clothes are wet. The first signs of Hypothermia are: drowsiness, uncontrollable shivering, disorientation and slurred speech. Seek immediate medical attention for Hypothermia. Warm the person suffering from Hypothermia slowly with warm liquids, dry clothing and blankets.
Here are some tips to keep yourself warm and safe this winter:
Keep yourself dry. Wet clothing can produce much faster heat loss from your body.
Dress Warmly. Wear mittens or gloves, and wear a hat. Half of your body heat is lost if your head is not covered.
Dress layered and minimize your exposure to the outdoors if possible.
