Government shutdown

Widespread effects are being felt here in South Jersey as the government shutdown is now in its fourth full week with no end in sight.

Jon Bon Jovi announced Saturday that his New Jersey Soul Kitchen restaurants will offer free lunch Monday to federal employees and their families who've been affected by the recent government shutdown.

With no end to the shutdown in sight, the Coast Guard in Cape May are being taught how to apply for various government assistance programs.

In our area, there are 1,500 federal employees including FAA and Coast Guard personal who are feeling ramifications due to the shutdown of the government.

While the IRS will still process tax returns if money is owed, they will not issue tax refunds during a government shutdown.

First and foremost, this is my opinion. Feel free to disagree or agree, that's your right. You know what else is your right? Well, you have the right to elect lawmakers who are sworn to have your best interests in mind when they head to Washington. The problem with this government shutdown is that it's simply not in anyone's best interest.

The government shutdown is on. It's the first shutdown since the Clinton era.
