The Press of Atlantic City is reporting that the Showboat Hotel and Casino will tell workers Friday that the casino is closing.

The newspaper quotes Bob McDevitt, President of the Unite HERE Local 54 as saying, " I know that the workers are getting issued WARN Act notices tomorrow.  We were notified by the company today and we began notify the workers immediately."

The WARN Act is the federal law requiring that companies give their employees notice of a plan to close.  No further closing information or timetable was given.

Showboat is one of four Atlantic City properties owned by Caesars Entertainment. The property has been the focus of closing rumors for the last several months.

This would be the second casino closing in Atlantic City this year, following the shuttering of the Atlantic Club back in January.

Showboat employs approximately 2100 workers. Our thoughts are with those workers tonight.
