Popular South Jersey Craft Distillery Permanently Closes

Shore Craft Distillery in Cape May Court House, the first craft liquor distillery in the area, has announced it is permanently closing after temporarily shutting its doors in August 2023.

South Jersey's First Distillery Closes its Doors

Shore Craft Distillery, which opened in 2013 as Cape May Distillery on Rt. 47 in Cape May Court House, has closed for good.

Back in August 2023, the business posted on Facebook that due to unforeseen circumstances, they were temporarily closed, but would reopen soon. That never happened.

Thursday, the business posted a one-sentence announcement of their permanent closing.

We regretfully announce that we have Permanently Closed. We are grateful for your unwavering support over the years and will cherish the memories of serving you.

 

The locally produced Liquors Were a Popular Attraction

Cape May Distillery, the area's first artisanal liquor distillery, was opened by two college friends who set out to create an original product.

In 2015, they opened a tasting room featuring their Barrel Rum and Beach Rum.

Over the years, more popular drinks were added like the Drunken Peanut Butter Cup and the Dirty Shirley, made with their own Sandcastle Vodka.

The distillery added gin, straight bourbon whiskey banana rum, and other liquors and won several awards for its locally produced, blended, and bottled products.

A few years ago, the business name was changed to Shore Craft Distillery and live music and food trucks were added to the lineup.

Patrons Are Disappointed

Fans of the establishment have been voicing their disappointment on social media with the closing since last summer, saying how much they liked the drinks, the bartenders, and Shore Craft Distillery's speakeasy vibe.
