Another year of experience for the girls on the Northfield Junior League softball team made the difference Monday morning in a 7-4 win against Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Northfield team was eliminated in this same round last year by Williamsport. This year, it's Northfield that advances to the East Region semi-final game, against a team to be determined, at 9am Wednesday in Orange, Connecticut.

Northfield, New Jersey's state champions is now 3-0 in the tournament, scoring shut outs against Delaware and New York over the weekend before beating Pennsylvania.

Coach Mike Toner's team could now afford to lose one game and stay alive in the double-elimination tournament. If the girls can win two more games, they will advance to the national tournament in Washington,  August 2nd-8th.

In addition to players from Northfield, the team consists of 13 and 14 -year-old girls from Ventnor, Somers Point, Linwood, and EHT.
