Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Max the dog

Here is some information on Max from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Little Max is an 8 month old male (N) Pointer mix from Georgia. He arrived on February 4th 2017 with his sister Roxy. He currently weighs just over 50 lbs., is white with black patches and freckles about his fur. His head is black with a “faded” white stripe down his snoot. Little Max has a wonderful personality; for his age he is fairly calm, easy-going, & gentle. He does need proper socialization, both for living in a “people-home” as well as the environment here in South Jersey.

Down in Georgia, Little Max and his sister lived on a rescue farm from the time they were tiny pups, about 6-8 weeks of age. There they were afforded much different liberties in their “home life” there, than is common here in New Jersey. Expect to run the full gamut of puppy training and socialization.

He is suitable for children-teenagers and up (~13/14 yrs.), though not small/young children; Little Max is friendly, but is a medium-large dog (and still growing) and lacks proper social interaction skills with people, as such small children may be intimidated, inadvertently knocked over, etc. Little Max should be okay with other dogs, likely would be okay with cats'

If you would like to visit Max or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
