Shirley Mae Goldberg, 94, died on Friday, March 1 at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The South Jersey Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund began with a donation from her family in her honor.

Shirley Mae Goldberg Passes at 94

Shirley Mae Goldberg was a woman who blazed trails her entire life, as her obituary points out. She went away to college in the 1940s, something very unusual for the time, attending the University of Miami after graduating from Atlantic City High School.

In 1975, Shirley Mae Goldberg co-founded Women's Realty, an all-female real estate firm in Margate that became very successful.

"She loved big words, playing the stock market, betting on sports, watching old movies and bight right", is the way her family remembered her in the obituary.

In 1950, she married Maxwell "Sonny" Goldberg and they had two children, Anne and Roy.

The Inspiration for the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund

After she survived breast cancer in the 1990s, her children created the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund in 2000, inspired by her determination and knowing that many local people diagnosed with breast cancer were suffering medical, emotional, and financial burdens and needed help.

Today, thousands of South Jersey patients in need have benefited from the fund with free financial assistance, aid with prescribed breast cancer medications that exceed insurance coverage, breast prostheses, wigs, and more for patients in need.

Shirley Mae Goldberg's Services
