How did you find out Whitney Houston Died?  I heard the news from a friend who read it on Facebook, and by the time I went online, minutes later Saturday night, Whitney's sad news was all  anyone was talking about.

The statistics on how quickly the news... about Whitney Houston's death spread are absolutely mind boggling!  Topsy Labs reports that about 2.5 billion tweets and re-tweets occurred in the first hour, amounting to about 1000 tweets per second!

It's also being reported that the news of Houston's death broke on social media 27 minutes before being picked up by the mainstream media.

Let me add that if we believed everything that was reported first on Facebook and Twitter,  john Bon Jovi would also be dead and Justin Beiber would have  ten children. As a member of the mainstream media, I'm not suggesting social media is a  more reliable way to find out breaking news, but the speed with which the news traveling fascinates me.

Take my poll and let me know how you found out the news about Whitney and give me know your thoughts on the benefits and problems of social media breaking news, in the comments section below...
