Margate, New Jersey in 1930. Morgan Foster Larson was Governor, Herbert Hoover was President, and the depression had left a quarter of working Americans unemployed.

Margate had seen a population boom during the early twentieth century, from 129 in 1910 to 2,913 in 1930, about half of today's full-time population.

This video posted by Margate's Patrick Armstrong shows the town of Margate in all its 1930 glory, and the most surprising thing about it might be how little has changed.

Certainly some things are different. The Great Hurricane of 1944 washed away the Margate Boardwalk, still prominently featured here. But much has remained very recognizable, including the wide street and the big houses in the Parkway section and the downtown shopping district.

Take a look for yourself and travel back 85 years in the history of Margate City, New Jersey.  Cool stuff!
