There is no more legendary band in Jamaican music history than The Wailers. Formed in 1969, the group has created an extraordinary body of work whose echoes are heard in every corner of the world today. Original members included the man hailed as “The Artist of the 20th Century,” Bob Marley and his vocal partners Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, alongside the ground-breaking rhythm section of the Barrett brothers, Carlton on drums and Aston on bass. The anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who was co-producer on many of Bob Marley's records and was responsible for almost all of the bass lines on Marley's hits. Today Aston leads the band as it continues its worldwide campaign of promoting peace, love and equality through the message of reggae and Rastafari.
Together with Bob Marley, The Wailers have sold over 250 million albums and have played to an estimated 24 million people across the globe. To mark the 30th Anniversary of the release of The Wailers’ iconic album, Legend, the band is touring the US in 2014, performing Legend in its entirety. Named by Time Magazine as the "Best Album of the 20th Century" and #46 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Legend is also the best-selling reggae album of all-time, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide.
Having collaborated with one another for two decades, Rusted Root, has honed the perfect combination of musical intuition, freedom and virtuosity, which has allowed them to organically shape their music into their own distinct and undeniable vision. With eight albums under their belt, over three million records sold worldwide and countless nights on the road, Rusted Root, transcends age, generations, cultures and musical genres. Rusted Root has established itself as a major touring entity, headlining venues all across America and Canada.
Famous for their unique fusion of acoustic, rock and world music, a dynamite percussion section that draws from African, Latin American and Native American influences, and relentless touring, Rusted Root has garnered legions of followers who call themselves “Root Heads.” While on tour in 2014, Rusted Root will be performing their Shanachie debut album, The Movement. The album is an energized and poetic collection of originals that capture the Pittsburgh based unit at their best. Rusted Root founder, front man, songwriter, singer/guitarist Michael Glabicki says, "The Movement is an extremely joyous recording with seriously deep undertones. It is a culmination of everything we have learned, or have tried to learn, over our entire career. It truly is a career record for us."
