Brigantine's branch of the Kennedy family have added to their brood. Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy and his wife Amy announced the birth of their daughter Nora Kara Kennedy.

The baby was born Tuesday at 3:11p.m., weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces and measuring 18 1/4  inches long at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus. Both mother and daughter are reported to be doing well.

Patrick Kennedy, who served 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Rhode Island is the youngest child of longtime Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy.  Amy Kennedy, an Absecon native, is a sixth grade teacher at the Northfield School.

The couple married in 2011 and live in Brigantine.  Amy has a daughter Harper, five, from a previous marriage and she and Patrick are also parents to Owen, who is 18 months old.

The couple released this statement following the birth...

“Amy and I are thrilled to welcome Nora to our family and are thrilled that both mom and baby are doing very well today. Harper and Owen are so excited to meet their baby sister. This is an important year for the Kennedy family, especially this week as we remember President John F. Kennedy. As we celebrate the birth of our daughter alongside our wonderful families, we honor the memories of those never far from our thoughts and turn a bittersweet time a whole lot sweeter. We want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of AtlantiCare and everyone who has sent their good wishes. We feel truly blessed.”
