After a long winter, New York City was finally embracing warmer spring weather when Betty Who stepped into a sun-drenched Manhattan studio to talk about her influences and songwriting. She also performed a stripped-down version of her hit, 'Somebody Loves You.'

The Australian singer, born Jessica Anne Newham, cites singer-songwriter Missy Higgins as one of her biggest influences.

"I taught myself how to play piano by learning her songs," Betty Who says. "I think that made a huge difference then when I started writing. I already had an idea of how other songs were written, so when I wrote my first song -- I think I was fourteen -- and I was like, 'Yeah, I get it.' ... It all makes sense. So I think I had a head start."

The Aussie also explains that she writes each song differently. Some factors that affect the writing process? The track's vibe, where she is and who she's around!
