Whitney Houston may have had one of the most recognizable voices in pop music, which brought her great success, fame and fortune. Apparently, the singer’s financial resources may have dwindled down to almost nothing, since her family sold footage of her celebrity-attended funeral to a variety of global media outlets.
Move over, M.I.A. You’re not the only one who can give a one-finger salute at a major music event. Fresh off the aforementioned rapper’s bird-flipping incident during the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime, British diva Adele did the same at the BRIT Awards this evening (Feb. 21.) But while M.I.A.’s gesture seemed immature, out of place and a foolish attempt to grab a headline, Adele was merely reacting to being cut off when making her acceptance speech.
The coaches are eager to fill their teams with the required 12 singers, so spots filled up on Week 3 of the Blind Auditions of Season 2 of ‘The Voice.’ We see them still encouraging each other to push the button for singers they think are right for the other, with Christina Aguilera often encouraging Adam Levine and Cee Lo to push their giant buzzers, while Blake Shelton muses about contestants being good-looking.
In her chat with ‘60 Minutes,’ music’s favorite diva Adele gushed that she is madly in love with her new beau Simon Konecki and nothing, not even scooping up two armfuls of Grammys (going six-for-six in a sweep), can get in the way of Adele’s romantic happiness moving forward. Even if that means giving fans the silent treatment for several years. Adele? Going silent? Again? Say it ain’t so!
The news that pop diva Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48 is still sinking in, with scant few details available about how Houston died. The mystery deepens, as members of the singer’s immediate family were in contact with her right before her untimely passing.
Apparently, Houston’s mother Cissy as well as her cousin and fellow singer Dionne Warwick both spoke to the ‘The Greatest Love of All’ singer on the phone just before her death and Houston seemed fine at the time.
Adele has been quiet lately because she had to be. After having vocal cord surgery to remove polyps that caused her to table several planned tours, the women behind the best-selling album since 2004, ’21,’ was ordered to pipe down and keep quiet until she healed. So she had no choice.
However, she’s made progress and is opening up to Anderson Cooper on ’60 Minutes,’ which airs this Sunday (Feb. 12) before the Grammys.
What’s more American than ‘American Idol?’ How about the president, the leader of the free world? ‘Idol’ producer Nigel Lythgoe is actually asking our commander-in-chief if he wants to come on the show during the live episodes to perform Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together.’ Obama performed an impromptu version of the song at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater, causing Green’s music to spike in sales. Perhaps Lythgoe thinks that a cameo by the President will boost the show’s relatively sagging ratings?
After telling PEOPLE they were splitting despite “seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage,” new details are emerging regarding the split between German supermodel and ‘Project Runway’ host Heidi Klum and hubby Seal.
On this special, Sunday night, post-NFC championship game edition of ‘American Idol,’ the producers hit San Diego, the So Cal city where the whether is always nice, to mine some talent. The auditions took place on the USS Midway, which was loud, but there was a crop of quality wannabes that got golden tickets to the next round.
What is it with reality talent competition judges botching the national anthem? ‘The Voice‘ coach Christina Aguilera bungled the song at the Super Bowl last February, and now, Aerosmith frontman and ‘American Idol‘ judge Steven Tyler is being crucified for his poor version of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ which he sang this afternoon (Jan. 22) before the AFC championship game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. The Pats actually won the game, so Tyler’s inept version wasn’t a curse or bad luck.
Simon Cowell is a media mogul, which makes him a media magnet, as well. He sees no less than 500 tabloid items printed about him and his entertainment properties in a single year. His ‘X Factor‘ show antics and his love life are often the topics of the press and publicity surrounding the acid-tongued judge. Simon Cowell, Inc. is a well-oiled machine, a brand and a corporation, and as the saying goes, behind every good man is an even better woman.
The Vogue brand has a crush on Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine. The flame-haired singer snagged the cover of the Japanese version earlier this year, rocking a seriously masculine look. It was the first time a non-model appeared on the cover of that publication in over a half-decade. Now, Flo goes uber femme on the January 2012 cover of the British version.
