Summer brings longer days, warmer weather, and exciting opportunities to eat charred food outdoors. But it's also traditionally brought something of a television drought, in which your favorite series have wrapped for a few months and you're left with "summer replacement programming" that typically involve feats of strength or, I don't know, watching a former girl group member shoot a crossbow while doing a split. And as gripping as a show like American Ninja Warrior can be (entering its eighth season this June!), just because school's out for some people doesn't mean we've lost our hankering for good ol' fashioned scripted TV. Accent on "good."

Fortunately, original series from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon have shifted the cycle, and now we have a wealth of options to choose from when it's time to fire up the A/C and settle into the couch. The coming months bring something for everyone, whether you're a fan of gritty dramas, acidic comedies or spooky-lite teen horror series.
