I've never felt truly comfortable in the ocean ever since seeing the classic movie Jaws when it first came out in the summer of 1975.  Sometimes I can still hear I still hear the Jaws theme of da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, playing in my head when I'm swimming around in the ocean.

Looks look we had another great white shark ping off the Jersey Shore just in time to kick off the 33rd annual Shark Week on the Discovery channel.

Say hello, from a safe distance, of course, to Breton who just happens to be a massive 13-foot, 1,400-pound great white shark. Breton pinged 25 miles northeast off the Cape May Inlet early Monday evening around 7 pm according to patch.com and OCEARCH who have been tracking sharks since 2007.

Breton was first tagged in 2020 off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada which is over 1,000 miles away from the coast of Cape May.

Mary Lee, one of the most famous great whites tagged by OCREACH was a frequent visitor to the Jersey Coast. Mary Lee's jawsome visits came between 2012 and 2017. Her last ping came in the summer of 2017 off the coast of Long Beach Island near Beach Haven. Mary Lee was over 16 feet long and weighed close to 3,500 pounds.

Great whites usually tend to stay further off the coast. Great whites can be as long as 20 feet while the average female is 15-16 feet, while males can reach up to 13 feet.

It's just another reason for me to always be on the lookout while I'm having some fun in the ocean.
