No, you're not seeing things.

It seems like every time you drive past a gas station here in South Jersey, the price of gas goes up.

WTXF-TV reports, via AAA Mid-Atlantic, the average price of a gallon of regular gas Friday in New Jersey was $2.87. Last week, it was $2.78. This time last year it was $2.43 (that's 44 cents per gallon more).

Regionally, regular unleaded in Delaware was about $2.74 and drivers in Pennsylvania are already paying over $3.00 per gallon.

So why are gas prices spiking?

Delawareonline.com interviewed Phil Flynn, senior market analyst at Price Futures Group, who said consumer demand for oil in April was the some of the highest in history because people feel good about the economy and that makes them want to drive more.

And don't forget, Memorial Day is right around the corner, which is the start of summer driving season.

Experts say gas prices will get close to or hover around $3.00 per gallon by Memorial Day but should level-off then unless something drastic happens.
