Yes, there is still a smoking ban that is going into affect for MOST South Jersey beaches for the Summer of 2019.

However, consider this piece of news a small loophole.

As of May 1st, Wildwood Crest will allow beachgoers to smoke in designated areas at the back of the beach but this is being done on a trial basis for at least the Summer of 2019.

Believe it or not, this is completely legal. Local governments can allow people "designated smoking areas" as long as it takes up less than 15% of the beach.

“The feeling expressed by of some of the commissioners was that smokers have rights, too,” said Borough Administrator Constance Mahon.

For those who decide to disobey and smoke outside of these areas will be issued with a warning. But keep in mind that these new rules will be enforced by law enforcement, not the lifeguards.

So I gotta ask: are you opposed for this loophole?

Plenty of other South Jersey towns put a smoking ban into affect before legislators made it official because of the health and environmental risks so is it dangerous that Wildwood Crest is deciding to venture out on their own?
