When you meet a Jersey Shore pat owner, it doesn't take long for you to sense the passion we have for our little furry friends. And that love for pets goes all through our state. But just how pet-friendly is New Jersey? One report is out, and the results may surprise and anger you.

The website Safewise did some research throughout the country to determine which states are the most pet-friendly states, and which ones are the least pet friendly. So, how did the Garden State do in the study?

It would not surprise most of us to find the Garden State right at the top of this list, the way we love our pets, but this is where the surprise comes in for you. We do not find ourselves at the top of the list of most pet-friendly states in the nation.

We actually find ourselves very close to the bottom of the list. The Garden State finishes as the 5th least pet-friendly state, and that is surprising news. So how were the rankings determined?

Here are just some of the pieces of data used to come up with the results; % of pet-friendly apartments, pet population, and 'pets left in car' laws.

The only states that rank lower than the Garden State are (from 4th worst to worst) Montana, Wyoming, South Carolina, and New Mexico.

I have to admit, hearing this, I'm a little heartbroken. I've always thought of us as a pet-loving, animal-friendly place. I think the Jersey Shore definitely is, but the data doesn't seem to show that.
