It doesn't matter if it feels like you got hit by a bus when the alarm goes off in the morning. Ignore the fact that you are ready for a work nap by 11:00 am each day. Pay no attention to the fact that you're falling asleep on the couch during your favorite binge show...at 8:00 pm! One study says if you live in New Jersey, you are not as tired as you think you are.

Let's start with exactly how tired we think we are. I spoke with Jersey Shore residents and in an informal and unscientific survey, and about 85% of you thought you didn't get nearly enough sleep each night.

Most Jersey Shore residents we spoke with seem to insist that the Garden State has to be among the top 5 most sleep-deprived states in the nation, but that is not what one study says.

If you go by the data compiled by 24/7 Tempo, there are actually 16 states in the nation getting less sleep than we are. How do they function? Here is the data from the Garden State that led us to be ranked the 17th most sleep-deprived state.

Only 37.5% of Garden State residents say they get less than 7 hours of sleep, which some quick math will tell you means 62.5% are getting more than 7 hours sleep. I'm not sure I know one person who does. I know I don't.

So, maybe the long workdays, the stress about money and bills, and the ridiculous schedule most of us keep aren't costing us as much sleep as we thought. I'm sorry, but I remain pretty skeptical.
