Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans.

Here is a list of events, commemorations, closings and special offers for veterans today in South Jersey. Don't forget to fly your flag!

 

 

- Egg Harbor City will host its annual Veterans Day Parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade will line up in the 500 block of Philadelphia Avenue at 6 p.m., march to Route 30 and back to the 500 block.

- Galloway: Assumption Regional Catholic School holds a prayer service recognizing local community veterans starting at 7:45 a.m. at 146 S. Pitney Road, Galloway.

- Veterans Day ceremonies at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. This begins in front of the Campus Center, then moving to Independence Plaza, followed by Veterans Park. This is all on the main Galloway campus at 101 Vera King Farris Drive in Galloway.

- The Hammonton Tri-Vets (American Legion, VFW, DAV) will be holding an annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Hammonton Middle School on Liberty Street.

- Atlantic County Veterans Advisory Board will recognize 31 military veterans and current residents of Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 235 Dolphin Ave. in Northfield at 2 p.m.

- Pleasantville Veterans Day Celebration at 10:30 a.m. by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6594 and American Legion Post 81 in Pleasantville. Event takes place at Veterans Memorial Park at Ansley and Franklin boulevards in Pleasantville.

- Cape May County Veterans Day Ceremony and dedication of prayer garden. 2 p.m. at Cape May County Cemetery on Moore Road in Cape May Court House.

- Ocean City Veterans Day Program at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Fifth Street and Wesley Avenue in Ocean City.

- Sea Isle City’s 2014 Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. in Veterans Park at John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Landis Avenue.

- Upper Township: Veterans Day event at 7 p.m. Hear first-hand accounts from some local World War II veterans. Cape May County Library Upper Township branch 2050 Route 631, Petersburg.

- Vineland, in conjunction with the United Veterans Council, will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. at the Landis Park Veterans Circle.

- The Manahawkin Veterans Day event at 10 a.m. at Ocean County College’s Southern Education Center at 195 Cedar Bridge Road in Manahawkin.

On Veterans Day all Veterans and active duty military can eat free at many restaurants. Military ID or proof of service is usually required and it's a good idea to call ahead to make sure. A partial list in alphabetical order:

--Applebee's: free meal to military veterans and active-duty service members. There's seven entrées to choose from, beverage and gratuity not included.

--BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse: Complimentary lunch entree, up to $9.95.

--Carrabba’s: free appetizer.

--California Pizza Kitchen: complimentary entrée from a special menu.

--Chick-fil-A: Free entrée, side, and beverage, or a free entrée salad and beverage.

--Chili's: choice of one of seven meals during the dinner hour, or any lunch combo during lunch. (Participating Chili's in US only)

--Chuck E. Cheese: 20 free tokens thru Sat, Nov 15.

--Claim Jumper: free meal from a limited menu.

--Denny's: Free build-your-own Grand Slam.

--Famous Dave's BBQ: a "one meat salute" meal (one meat, a side and a corn muffin) from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Participating locations only. Does not include drink, appetizer or dessert).

--Hooters: free meal up to $10.99 in value with a drink purchase.

--IHOP: free Red, White and Blue pancakes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Participating locations only).

--Krispy Kreme: free doughnut and small coffee. (Participating locations only).

--Little Caesars Pizza: free Crazy Bread. (Participating locations only).

--Mission BBQ: complimentary turkey, pork, and brisket sandwiches all day, in addition to free slices of cake while supplies last.

--Olive Garden: Choose from a special menu; all entrées include freshly baked garlic sticks and choice of soup or salad.

--On the Border: free meal from the “Create Your Own Combo menu.”

--Outback Steakhouse: free Bloomin' Onion and a non-alcoholic beverage; also receive 15 percent off your purchase from Nov. 12-Dec 31, 2014.

--Red Lobster: Free Appetizer from a select list.

--Red Robin: free Red's Tavern Double burger with Bottomless Steak Fries.

--Ruby Tuesday: free appetizer.

--Sizzler: free lunch from a limited menu until 4 p.m.

--Starbucks: Free tall brewed coffee. (Participating locations only).

--Texas Roadhouse: one of 10 free entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any non-alcoholic beverage during lunch.

--TGI Fridays: free lunch on limited menu at select restaurants.
