New Jersey is full of towns with very interesting names, especially here in South Jersey. Have you ever wondered how they got their name?

Absecon was the first town name I mispronounced when I first started here on Lite Rock, and boy did you let me know about my mistake with one call after another.

According to Wikipedia,  Abescon first became its own town back in 1872 after being part of Galloway and Egg Harbor Township. Abesecon was named after the Absegami tribe of Native Americans. The name Absecon stems from the Indian word, "little bay or water".

FYI,  Absegami was the second town name I commonly mispronounced on the air.
