There are so many things we are proud of here in the Garden State. We are proud of our beaches and boardwalks. We are proud of our bagels. And we are really proud of our pizza. But Garden State pizza lovers who think we are the pizza capital of the world are about to be very disappointed. We apologize in advance.

Now, before we deliver the pizza news (see what I did there?), we do have to tell you that this is not about the quality of the pizza. It's more about the quantity, but it turns out our belief that a pizzeria at every corner is unique to New Jersey is a complete miscalculation.

Some research was done by 24/7 Tempo to find out which state has the most pizzerias per capita. Sounds like a slam dunk for us, right. Well, it actually turns out that we are not the pizza capital of the U.S, the northeast, or even the tri-state area.

There are states all around us with more pizzerias. And are you ready for another shocker? New York is not one of those states. Alright, wait. What is going on here? Pennsylvania has more pizzerias, as do Connecticut and Rhode Island.

That's right, all that means is that New Jersey ranks 4th in the nation with 35.7 pizzerias per 100,000 people. Not bad, but not exactly the kings of the world we thought we were before this bad news surfaced.

So, we spend the rest of the day knowing we don't top that pizza list, but we also know that it doesn't matter how many pizzerias we have, we still have the best pizza in the world. Order a pie today from a local pizzeria, and support a great local business. thanks!

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
