The project to turn Atlantic City's shuttered Atlantic Club Casino in to a waterpark entertainment complex received approval for development from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority on Monday.

The CRDA's zoning-related green light is an important step in the process to return the former casino to a functioning business again.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, Endeavor Property Group, the Pennsylvania company behind the estimated $165 million project, are planning an 81,000 square-foot waterpark with about 800 hotel rooms. The company hopes to complete the project by winter 2016-2017.

The Atlantic Club has been closed since January 2014.
