A young man who tried to carjack an Ocean County Park security guard's car while brandishing a knife has been caught and arrested.

Little Egg Harbor Township Police say they first received a call at 4:30pm yesterday from the Freedom Recreational Fields on Rt. 539. A security guard said a young man with a knife approached his vehicle and demanded the guard surrender the vehicle.

The young man then headed, on foot, into nearby woods, where he was eventually tracked down by Patrolman Smith and police K-9.“Hooks." The teen was arrested and found to be in custody of a knife.

Police say he was charged with Carjacking, Robbery, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

The teen has been arrested and is being held in a secure location.

Police ask that "Anyone having contact with a suspicious male during this time at Freedom Fields or the Sports Complex Fields are asked to contact police, 609-296-3666 Ext. 170."
