A 17-year-old teenage boy from Bridgeton drowned Friday while swimming with friends in a pond in Millville.

The drowning happened at Menantico Ponds off Route 49 early Friday evening, according to Courier Post. Millville Police Detective Lt. Ross Hoffman told NJ.com two friends saw the boy go underwater and were reportedly able to pull him out of the water before police arrived on the scene. Efforts to resuscitate to teen were unsuccessful.

The boy was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland before being transferred to duPont Hospital in Delaware for more treatment, but he did not survive.

Authorities have no released the name of the victim.

Menantico Ponds are part of the Wild and Scenic Maurice River watershed, and are owned by the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.
