Not since the opening of the Somers Point Taco Bell have so many people been so excited about a new store coming to town.

I'm being a bit humorous there, but still, when the Somers Point Kmart closed at the end of 2019, the future of that shopping center was looking a little bleak. After all, there aren't too many big box stores left that can easily fill 100,000-square-feet of retail space.

And then Target stepped up and announced they were coming to town.

Over the past several months, the old Kmart has been gutted and completely overhauled to match the typical design of a Target store (fun fact: the Somers Point Kmart was the last new Kmart store that was ever built).

I had a chance to peek inside last night and the store is already looking pretty spectacular.

While many of us know the layout of the Mays Landing Target inside and out, this store looks like it will be a little different. First, this store will be a little smaller than your typical Target by about 30,000-square-feet, according to The Press of Atlantic City. Secondly, the floorplan will be a little different -- for example, the grocery section of the Mays Landing Target is way off to the right as you walk in. At the Somers Point store, it will be straight back against the far wall.

Officially, there is no grand opening date just yet, but here's what the store is looking like...
