You just don't expect certain things to happen to your kids when they are 4, 5 or 6 years old. Getting cut by a knife one of their little classmates brought on the school bus would fall in that category.

The Press of Atlantic City reported on an knife indecent involving students at Joseph Shaner Elementary School in Mays Landing this Tuesday morning, when one student was injured by a knife brought on the bus by another student. Several students are said to have been involved.

The Shaner School teaches pre-school thru first grade students. That means the students involved in this knife play were 4, 5 or 6 years old. How could this have happened? Where were the parents, school personnel, the bus driver or any adults?

In a letter on the school's website, Principal Daniel Cartwright says the school's safety procedures will be examined and suggest that parents talk with their children,
